Horticultural Sciences and Landscape Engineering

Department of Horticultural Sciences and landscape engineering of Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences, officially started its activities in 1996 through enrolment of the first batch of undergraduate students (Bachelor of Science in Horticultural Science Engineering) with an annual capacity of 30 students. Since 2004, the development of post-graduate education in this Department has begun with the enrolment of students in the M.Sc. degree in Horticulture. Since 2007, the Master's degree in Horticulture was divided into four separate fields: Fruit trees, Ornamental plants, Vegetable Science, Medicinal plants. The enrolment of the Ph.D. students in four fields of Pomology, Ornamental plants, Vegetables, Medicinal plants was undertaken in 2014. Furthermore, the enrolment of the students at the B.Sc. level of Medicinal Plants, Spices and Beverages was inaugurated since 2014. The BSc level in the field of Design and Landscape Engineering was also started in October 2016.

 

This department currently has 11 full-time academic members; all are either in Associate or Assistant Professor positions. The Horticulture Department has laboratories for Physiology of Horticultural Plants, Micropropagation and Tissue Culture, Extraction and Analysis of Horticultural Plants, Biotechnology of Horticultural Plants. It also has three units of a semi-cylindrical Educational-Research greenhouse with plastic covering, including a Greenhouse for ornamental and apartment plants, Propagation greenhouse equipped with a misting system and a greenhouse for miscellaneous horticultural research. Also, two unites in a semi-cylindrical greenhouse of the FAO design with fiber glass coating and a double-sided polycarbonate greenhouse are currently available for research activities
